About

The Ronald Reagan Institute of Emergency Medicine at The George Washington University was established in 1991, in recognition of the tremendous growth of Emergency Medicine at GW and to recognize the Emergency Department’s role in saving the life of President Reagan after the 1981 assassination attempt.

The Reagan Institute’s mission is to improve emergency care, education, training, and consultative support. Key initiatives of the Reagan Institute include Injury Prevention and Control, the medical aspects of disaster planning, preparedness and response, and the enhancement of emergency medical services throughout the world.
